Bloomberg Forms Coalition on Nation's Infrastructure

Mayor Bloomberg says the nation is experiencing an “infrastructure crisis” and wants more federal investment. On Saturday, Bloomberg, along with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell, announced the creation of Building America’s Future, a not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization that will advocate for more, and smarter, federal spending on infrastructure. “The funding needs to maintain our existing infrastructure, and to improve and expand infrastructure as our nation continues to grow, just hasn’t been the priority it needs to be,” said Bloomberg. According to the press release, “the coalition will work with presidential candidates and the platform committees of the national political parties to ensure that the next president understands the enormity of the infrastructure crisis and is committed to increasing federal funding. In the long term, the coalition will serve as a repository of best practices on infrastructure funding issues and become a think tank focusing on emerging infrastructure issues.”

The redevelopment of Penn Station is arguably the most critical infrastructure project in the city. Let’s hope building New York’s future is a high priority for Bloomberg’s new project.
